Link Popularity Techniques

Inbound links from Web sites.

Not all incoming links are valued equally by search engines. In fact, Google might even downgrade your site if it receives links from sites it suspects to be set up solely for the purpose of providing inbound links.

The links on which you should focus your efforts are the ones which come from sites that are highly rated by search engines like Google, and are related or similar in content to your web site.

To find out such sites go to Google and search for your targeted search terms. You should focus on getting inbound links from one or more of the first 20-30 web sites which figure in the results.

The way to go about getting the same is as following:

1. Search on these web sites to see if they accept request for links to similar web sites. One way to find such a page is by doing a site specific search on Google. The corresponding search query on Google for the hypothetical site Learn-SEO.com looks like:

site:www.Learn-SEO.com ( 'Add url' OR 'submit url' OR 'suggest site' OR 'suggest url')

Incase they do accept, then fill out the respective form and submit online. If the above search does not yield any result then you need to do some more work.

2. Browse through the target site and search for places where a link to the information provided in your site will be of most relevance.

3. Link the target web site from your own web site at a few relevant and appropriate places.

4. Now write a mail to the webmaster of the target web site and request him for a review of your site and possible links to the same. Provide him the information regarding which places on his web site are most appropriate for linking to your web site, and also provide the HTML code which will do the same. Finally, do inform him that you found his site useful and relevant to the topic and list out the URL's on your site where you have linked his site.

Article Submissions in Ezines

Ezines are online magazines where people submit articles, mostly for free. Most of these ezines give you a space in the bottom of your article to include your personal information and a link to your web site You can find a directory of ezines at Go-Ezines.com . The best way to get good traffic and inbound links to your web site is by writing an article related to the content of your web site and submitting it in some of the ezines. Do remember to add a link to your web site at the bottom of your article.

Blogs

Blogs represent one of the most democratic form of media in the 21st century. This fact has been recognized by search engines, and which is why inbound links to your site from a blog tend to be highly valued by search engines. A form of search engine spam which has resulted as a direct result of the power that blogs wield with search engines is comment spamming.

Most blogs provide a comments section where users can write comments on the particular blog post. The comments section also accepts HTML. Some people use the comments section to add a link to their site, in the hope of boosting their site rankings. In case this has an overtly SEO objective it is considered spamming by most search engines. The way search engines have worked around this is by not considering links which appear in the comments section of blogs for ranking purposes.

The best way to get reviewed on a blog is to ask around if someone you know writes a good blog and request him for a review of your web site Optionally, you might also hunt for blogs which have postings related to the content on your web site and request them for a review.

RSS Feeds

An RSS feed is a snapshot of your sites latest news/views/analysis in XML format which includes last updated date. Most users don't have the time to keep visiting all of their favorite sites and check out new content. RSS feeds is how they keep themselves updated on the latest from their favorite web sites. RSS feeds are read in by an RSS reader, which are basically news aggregators, collecting RSS feed from news sites/blogs and displaying it to the user.

where the <pubDate> tag stands for published date and is the date when the specific article went online. As you can see above the rss.xml file basically contains a section for each article on your site (apart from the top level <channel> tag which is for the whole site as such) containing the specific information about the article. Whenever you add a new article to your site, add a corresponding section to the rss.xml file as shown above.

  3. Finally you need to add a link to the rss.xml file on your main index page. The usual practice is to provide an image link like this . Feel free to copy and use this image.

So that is all you need to do to RSS enable your site. Further you can go about and submit your rss feeds to various RSS directories like the following:
